This web page documents the thoughts and process that led to the move towards an independent Conference on Computational Complexity.<\/p>\n
After a number of years of growing grievances, a manifesto was presented at the conference in June 2013, focusing on financial aspects and the issue of free open-access to the proceedings. A forum for discussing the affiliation was created in February 2014, and statements by the IEEE Technical Committee on Mathematical Foundations of Computing (TCMF) and the ACM Special Interest Group on Algorithms and Computation Theory (SIGACT) were invited. A community-wide poll was held in April 2014, in which 60% favored independence. After further discussion and receiving sufficient pledges for financial and other help from the community, the steering committee unanimously decided on May 16, 2014, to move forward with independence, and subsequently published an open letter justifying the decision.<\/p>\n
